Taper Ten

This morning marked my last “long” run before my 1/2 marathon next weekend.

It’s taper time — so doubts are starting to creep in …

Did I do enough mileage?

Can I actually PR?

I hope I don’t get sick….

….these are just a few of the thoughts swirling about my taper head.

I decide to push these thoughts aside for the time being and focus on something really important.  Like, what I’m going to wear on race day.

I’m pretty sure I’m wearing these gems:

Brooks PureConnect

Jess and I set off for our usual 10 mile loop around Ferndale — although today we did the loop backwards (or the other way from which we normally go).  It was a chilly 40 something degrees and the fog was keeping us company.  About 1/2 way through, the sun was peeking out from the clouds and it looked to be shaping up to be an awesome sunny/chilly day.  Our run went well and actually a little faster than we intended on running.

Total mileage: 10.31

Total time: 1:30

Average pace: 8:43

Thank you Jess – for another great run!

8 days to go!

  1. Hey! I just came across your blog, and I am loving it! I am running a half marathon this coming up weekend too. Good luck on your half! I can’t wait to read all about it. P.S. I am debating on trying the Brooks PureConnect or the Brooks PureFlow? Do you have any knowledge on the differences between them?

    1. Hi Meghan! Thanks for checking out my blog!! I checked out yours and I love it – in fact, going to add it to my reader! I love my PureConnects — they are for neutral type runners, very lightweight and responsive. I love how they fit and the cushioning is spot on. I actually wore them for Ironman Canada in 2011 and have been wearing them (and several others Brooks brand shoes — PureCadence, Adrenaline, Ghost, Launch, etc) ever since. I have not tried the PureFlow yet, but I have friends who have and love them too. They are little more shoe for guidance as compared to the PureConnect.

I’m excited for your 1/2 too and look forward to reading all about it. Let me know what you choose for your shoe! RUN HAPPY!! xo

      1. Yes! They are a great minimalist shoe, but still feel cushiony/springy/responsive at the same time. Because they have fewer materials however, I rotate mine out frequently (every 250-300 miles). If you intend to log a ton of miles, you may want to spread the wealth with different types (Launch, Ghost, Adrenaline GTS) and use the PureConnect for tempos and your marathon. ps.. Ironman was a full 🙂

      2. That is awesome! Congrats on your full Ironman! It is nice to know there is a minimalist shoe out there that will take you to that type of distance. Thank you so much for the suggestion! I am going to look in to them. 😀

  2. I am so jealous that you are doing the R&R Vegas run. I really wanted to do it! Have fun and PR! Looking forward to reading all about it! A R&R Half is on my bucket list for next year nad I really want to travel out of town.
